Today in Kentucky a man was displeased with his breakfast and went on a shooting rampage which was responsible for the death of 5 people. His eggs, according to the story, were not to his satisfaction.
Here is the link to the full story.
This, as extreme as it is, is not unheard of in the USA. Some parts of the country, especially along the border with Mexico are essentially the fiefdoms of Latin American drug cartels. Across the San Francisco Bay from me lies Oakland — one of the centres of gang activity. The heartland for that, however, is Los Angeles where several times a month people die because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Actually, that happened here in San Francisco last month — a German teacher on holiday was shot and killed when she was caught in the crossfire. But life in the USA is great, just peachy. It is wonderful since American society is so much stronger than that in the old world, obviously. That is why violent crime rates are several times higher in the USA than there.
What can one say? People like that have ‘The Right’ to bear arms…
I put your link right!
It sounds like Paradise.
Come on, you Gunslingers! Where are you today?
Been at work. Need to look up the reference but I seem to recall that the States with ‘liberal’ gun ownership laws have lower murder rates and certainly lower burglary rates than States with tighter gun control laws. Nutters are everywhere – if this nutter had not had a gun, he w ould have used a kitchen knife or a chisel, or something similar. Crossfire and drive-by shootings happen in UK where only criminals have guns.
I hunt. I would not carry a firearm under normal circumstances for two reasons. 1. It makes you too ‘brave,’ – likely to get involved in a ‘situation,’ rather than do the sensible thing.* 2. I am not afraid of the average, untrained dumbo with a badly maintained weapon – I would be much more afraid of the same dumbo with a knife.
* Run away, quickly.
I cannot find it at all unreasonable to kill anyone that gives you a fried egg with the yellow set!
In fact there ought to be a mandatory death sentence from the State for any hapless creature overcooking eggs, a most reasonable story, can’t imagine what you find reprehensible in such a tale.
Getting a gun in the USA is not quite that easy. In some states it is easier than others. California, for example, has some of the most restrictive laws as well as one of the highest crime rates in the world. North Dakota and Nebraska have very liberal gun laws and almost no real crime. This doesn’t always have much to do with it, though. Nevada has relatively liberal laws but an even higher crime rate. Everyone is obligated to have a background-check under federal law before purchasing a firearm. The problem is more cultural, in my opinion.
Never mind eggs Christopher,
If that postie of yours doesn’t pull his finger out, I will be coming over there and going postal myself. 🙂
Any sniff of a delivery yet?
reminds me of the old advert slogan, “go to work on an egg”
Sorry Ferret, nothing yet. The Obamastani People’s Post is doing what is does best — take forever to do even the most basic tasks. At the moment I am ready to go postal on UPS as they are costing me another few hours in transit to-day since they can’t deliver a package at a decent time.
