  1. My endeavours that day are scheduled for 10 a.m. I have to undergo a truly horrible ordeal but I am prepared and expectant that a cavalier will overcome the roundheads. I hope your victory (or dedlivery) will have come by fair means! My story will appear on these pages in times to come.

  2. Which is it?

  3. Hi, JW.

I thought at first, that you had got your dates wrong and were referring to the visit of the Boy Benedict to Jockland on 16th September.

I work just round the corner from Holyrood Palace where he’s going to visit Lizzie that morning, so I’ll give him a salute of some sort from you when he’s passing, if you like?

After that, he’s going to Princes Street to watch large numbers of pupils from schools called St Ninian’s processing past him. Interestingly enough, a week ago they closed the full size model of the tram which is rotting away quietly away next to the Scott Monument as the project slips further behind schedule. There is a large sign on it saying ‘Suspended until after the Papal visit.’

I realise, of course, that you are referring to the forthcoming Hun invasion of Manchester on the evening of Tuesday 14th September. I am sure that your fans will be on their best behaviour this time and that there will little or no trouble. Good luck.

    ‘No Pope on the Trams!’

  4. One line blogs are definitely the future for me and I’m sure everybody prefers it that way too.

Thanks be to all the repliers with their various humorous thoughts on the mysterious date. Made me chuckle.

Special mention to Mr. Janus for the links. I had no idea there was so much to do around here. I must get out more.

Lastly and leastly, to John, who in this case was wrong. Normally you scan my words with a toothpick and the clue was in the tag. Royalist expectations of Old Trafford are low, I’m afraid and I know the date of the Benedictine landing. Though I must say your fine and funny comments on his itinerary were memorable.

14th September is the release date of the latest in the Xbox Halo franchise: Halo Reach. My son has pre-ordered from HMV and with much pleading I’ll try and cadge a shot. The makers of this game, Bungie, have boasted it’s the best ever and have no idea how to top it. Someone at the company suggested Scottish Battleships. First the film now the video game, whatever next?

  5. JW: footnote. I read that if you are fortunate enough to become a bum on a Papal seat, you’ll be able to while away five hours (bladder or no bladder) sans umbrella, sans candle – in the interests of security, dontchya know. That should suit your rhythm of life! 🙂
