Tim, I can remember being taken as a small child to see Anthony Eden when he arrived back in Leamington Spa after he had been made prime minister (I stood on the windowsill of Barclays Bank opposite the town hall. There was just a sea of people all around me. I can’t imagine a similar thing happening these days!
