Found this earlier, thought that I’d share
Here’s what National Geographic had to say –
The Glows of Kilimanjaro
Photograph by Kwan O. Chul, TWAN
While an electric-lighted line of mountain climbers snakes toward it, a meteor streaks over Tanzania‘s Mount Kilimanjaro in a photograph released Monday.
Similar shows dazzled Northern Hemisphere stargazers Thursday night and early Friday as the Perseid meteor shower peaked and the moon waned, allowing shooting stars to shine brighter.

Sensational Soutie, thanks for sharing it with us. I will have a gander at the other bits later.
Cool, man. 🙂
Brilliant, Soutie – what does it portend?
Ha ha, afternoon Zen.
I thought of you when I ‘found’ this earlier today.
What does it portend? The arrival of life in Africa perhaps!
(Not that I really care, I think that it’s a super, super pic 😉 )
Great picture, Soutie. I trekked up Mt Kilimanjaro with a school party in 1961. We didn’t go all the way to the true summit, but my name’s in the book at Gilman’s Point, (nearly 6,000 metres.) At dawn, we could see far enough to see the curvature of the Earth. Amazing experience for a 13-year old boy.
You can understand the effect of such events on primitive cultures – I include ours!
And all we had were clouds and light pollution.
brilliant shot
RR, Yep, high haze and sky-glow here, too – and Thursday was also a planetary conjunction night, too – missed that as well.
Too beautiful! Thanks 🙂
Good one, Soutie. Over here we had clear skies, no moon, a wonderful view and a party.

Beautiful photo.
We have had a reasonable day but worrying autumnal. I haven’t had time to look at the sky but it clouded over late afternoon. The forecast here is well cool and wet until November; deep joy!
