A cobweb for Val

I’ve been meaning to post a picture of my car’s cobweb laden mirror for some time now, Val’s picture post  on flowers titled ‘Find the cobweb’ (or similar) and her more recent ‘mirror image’ effort made me finally do something about it!

A little history to begin with, spiders for some reason or another have always held a high position in the hierarchy of the Soutie household, (possibly one tier lower than the cat, but as the cat’s position is self proclaimed rather than bestowed perhaps that doesn’t count!), they are obviously eating something and that has to be good for my environment,  I’ve never killed them.

You would be hard pressed to find a cobweb in the house, we have a sort of unwritten rule, build your webs behind the picture frames and cupboards and they will be okay, if I see one then it’s featherdusted into oblivion.

So, spiders are alright by me, if they get too big (larger than say the palm of my hand), then they are captured and tossed into the garden to enjoy their retirement.

A couple of months ago they decided to  nest in my car’s wing mirrors, no problem so long as I can see behind me I couldn’t care less.

Stationary at the robot (traffic light to you) the other day a bee settled on the mirror and proceeded behind to investigate  the lights turned green, I never did establish whether he made it out.

  1. That is excellent Soutie, I really love this, perfect shot too, thank you for posting it with me in mind, I feel honoured.

The stone pyramid and lighthouse, situated on a large hill in the centre of town overlooking the harbour are a monument to Sir Rufane Donkin who was the Govenor of the Cape, when in 1820 it was decided to settle the eastern frontier of the Cape colony with British farmers and tradesmen.

The settlement in Algoa Bay was named Port Elizabeth, in memory of his wife who had died in India.

A sad story, I believe that ‘Elizabeth’ never set foot here in the town that bears her name.

My banner explained completely (with pictures) here

  3. I have the same problem Soutie.

Spiders and wing mirrors that is. I have yet to find the optimum speed at which the spider is detached from the web, but I supposed it depends on bodyweight and etc. They still cling on at 90mph. 🙂

I have never seen my ‘squatters’, must be nocturnal!

90mph eh? That’s even considered too fast down here, unless you were late for a hair appointment or an engagement of equal importance (nails perhaps?)
    🙂
