Battleships Two – Just A Thought

JM and the Royalist:

I don’t know about anyone else, but I am having trouble following your game. I’ve drawn up the following table. If you like I can put two copies in your post, John, which you can edit – and then we can all see what is happening. 🙂

  1. Well done Boa, this is precisely what I mentioned on the B II post earlier.

I have a feeling that they would prefer a blue background 😉

  2. Good Evening Boadicea,

Araminta and a lot of the others know me as JW. The Royalist name change is a long story and you can call me the quicker to type JW if you prefer.

RE: The chart. I’ve got my spreadsheet with the numbers in descending order from the top i.e. A1 is bottom left but I don’t think it makes any difference does it? I was going to ask John that if the casual reader who isn’t up to date decides to shoot a grid reference already used, the shot should stand. Misfires and duplicate bombings are common in warfare. (You don’t think I’m taking this too seriously, do you?) 🙂

The visibility of a table prevents this happening but you never know with you lot. It also puts pressure on me to fill my chart in correctly, sometimes my mind wanders off and I’m somewhere else.

Glad to see healthy interest in our little battle. I’m sure John will agree the first one was all about friendly ribbing and patter; I didn’t even know there was a game on. Any chance of making the chart a deeper shade of blue. Royal blue would be nice.

  3. It’s not difficult to change the numbers, or the background colour. You can each have different colours if you wish.

More to the point – do you and JM want to share your grids with the rest of us!

  4. JW
Numbers changed. The problem with a darker colour will be seeing the hits…
I shall have to wait for John before I mess with his post 🙂

  5. Jm is out playing with his bowls or his boules respectively ceteris paribus infra dignitatem.

  6. Been flat on my back since Sunday morning doing the old Rest, Ice and Elevation bit (Compression not indicated). Aye, that bowling can be a awfu rough game in Scotland.

Truth is, I tweaked the knee slightly driving at the jack and woke up with a huge lump beside said knee, which is a bit dodgy due to old footballing injuries. Diagnosed as bursitis. This is the first time that Mrs M. has let me near the computer terminal since then, but I’m under strict instructions to be back in RIE position instanter.

Thanks for all your work on the grid, even if you have adopted the JW aberration. My grid, being Embran and sensible, has A1 top left but no matter.

Please go ahead and put the two grids in my post but I can’t promise to start updating until Matron M. gives me the all-clear to return to duty.

I think the grid itself should be white but colours for the numbers would be nice. If he’s getting Royal Blue, could I please have Majestic Maroon?

  7. Commiserations on your injuries – I always did reckon that sport was a dangerous past time!

As I said earlier – dark colours, such as Royal Blue and Majestic Maroon will make your job of editing the grid a bit harder since you will have to find a colour which contrasts nicely with the background. I’ve changed the grid to show what a Royal Blue background would look like with black crosses.

The old KISS principle should, I think, apply here!

Just another thought – shouldn’t you both be working from the same grid – or is that too easy 🙂

  8. ….”driving at the jack”, so it’s green bowling, noy ten-pin! I knew it! Not crown green though, eh?

  9. Janus – please remember that I’m learning how to do this as I go along. I’m pretty impressed with my efforts so far, but 3D is way beyond the capabilities of a medieval historian!

  10. Hi Boa.

Now fit to resume battle. A poor effort at the grid on my post, but your original pre-bluish version was so much better. If you can put two editable versions of said original on my post, I would be most grateful.

CO, I’m having that J10 as one of my goes, in your name, by the way. Welcome to the fray.

  11. Aye weel, Ara.

As it says in the Bible, ‘Tell it not in Gath, do not proclaim it in the streets of Ashkelon,’ etc.

I’m not that recovered but Mrs M. is now in London ready to sing her heart out with her fellow members of the Embra Festival Chorus tomorrow night at the Proms. So, I had to be sufficiently ‘recovered’ to get her to get on the train south this lunchtime.

Large amounts of ant-inflammatory drugs and reasonable amounts of alcohol are presently persuading me that I have no pain in the knee. I await the morn with interest.

  12. Oh, well I did wonder, John, but needs must and a wee dram at breakfast perhaps?

Only for the pain, you understand, I would not normally recommend this!
