I have set up a slideshow over on my WP blog, demonstrating digital photography using the Redfield Fractalius plug-in for Photoshop…more for photo geeks than the general readership, but feel welcome to browse.
I also set it up over there, as I didn’t want any more of my screw-ups on Bearsy’s site trying to do something new, like organize a slideshow!

CWJ travelled extensively with his family, having worked in eleven countries over thirty years. A keen photographer, holding a Private Pilot's Licence, he focuses mainly on landscape and aerial imagery. Having worked in the Middle East extensively he follows developments in that region with particular interest, and views with growing concern, the radicalisation flowing from Islamic fundamentalism, and the intolerance for opposing views, stemming from it.

I’ve just had a peak, CWJ and I am now awaiting moderation.
Just read this and my question has been answered. It’s quite amazing.
Moderation? You remind me of my late friend “Moderation Mohammed”, an Edinburgh-trained physician – only drank and smoked cigars at the weekends – “Everything in moderation”, was his constant advice to me!
I have no idea how my own blog requires moderation. Can a technocrat amongst you explain how I make it a free-for-all to comment?
..including moderation, hopefully. It is a disaster when taken to extremes! 😉
Ah, well it is only the first comment that requires approval, and thereafter one can comment at will.
It is the same on this site, and yes, it can be changed but it does stop spammers and etc.
If you really want to change the default, CWJ, I can let you know how, but probably not tonight.
Thanks Araminta. I seem to have mine set to approve the first comment and thereafter the same person can comment freely and as recklessly as they wish, presumably until I tire of being bashed about in my own blog…I shall be happy to explain how it works if you want, tomorrow at some stage?
Thanks CWJ, but I have the same restrictions on my WordPress site. I have even discovered how to block someone. One hopes of course that this should not be necessary, but it can stop the hysterical and/ or the profane.
CW, I’m surprised that a man of your calibre……. 🙂
Just had a quick browse CW, wonderful, I’ll keep popping in there to browse some more. I’ve signed up to your site, hopefully I have anyway.
CWJ, really enjoyed the show, but am using this post to say a big thankyou for the pics and information on Sandwood Bay. I have been close to the footpath that begins the four mile trek and it is still my ambition to make that journey. Had I found the time I would have put up Achmelvich beach (on the Lochinver/Kylsesku road, approached from a side road) as well as a shot at Durness. You can guess I am a keen lover of Sutherland. It was an interesting collection of information and snaps coming from Johnny’s original post.
Will take a look. Thanks for the link.
Papaguinea, I have an ambition to walk to it (any fool can fly over it!) but I want to do so once the annual Midgie invasion is over. The other remote and beautiful spots I would recommend to you are
Glen Affric, reachable by a dead-end road off the north side of Loch Ness
Glen Etive, off the Glencoe road (hardly anyone ever turns down that single track) and
Loch Ewe – the sea end, reachable by single track road – which is where the Murmansk convoys were assembled prior to sailing for Russia, during WWII.
Sutherland is one of the most beautiful parts of the UK, and least populated, which makes it even more attractive. I’ll dig out some aerial imagery I have taken of Sutherland and pop it on a slideshow for you, now that I know what I’m doing!
Araminta – I think we were at cross purposes up there – I meant I would explain how Fractalius works – I have put a comment on my own blog, which should clarify things.
Woo! Interesting effects, CWJ! I have an old-ish version of Photoshop but will investigate if the trial thing will work with it. Have sent a link to my graphic designer pal in case she doesn’t already know about it. Thanks!
Ah, yes, I see!
Thanks CWJ. I only have a very old Photoshop version which is on an ancient standalone PC. I doubt it would run on this machine.
Araminta – Sounds like a good excuse for an upgrade!
PG – slideshow of North West Highlands is now up, including your Kylesku Bridge from about 6,000′!
CWJ – brilliant, absolutely brilliant images!
Ah yes, Marcus Fractalius, the Emporer with the broken column.
Ouch. I’ve got some cream for that. 😉
Many thanks. I am familiar with much of the territory. I know Suilven and Quinag mountains well from all angles but have never climbed them. I used to stay on the Westminster Estate at Kylestrome, as soon as you pass the old ferry turn off road, there is a track going right, leading to two cottages. The view south overlooks Quinag and three lochs. (I’ve seen two rainbows there in the same sky line but never had the camera on me!) It was never quite the same since they built the bridge – the stories of the ferry crossings and the gatherings in the Kylesku hotel are the stuff of legend. Charlie boy used to stay at the lodge at Loch More – I believe he was up there with Diane all those years ago.
Ara, “I’ve just had a peak, CWJ”. On top of your game, huh?
