Goldtrail Holidays

Yesterday I checked my emails and discovered that I was a victim of the collapse of Goldtrail Holidays.

This is the first time anything like this has happened to me. I always thought that this kind of misfortune only afflicted other people.

I booked the flight online through Airflights.co.uk, as I did last year to the same destination, and thought nothing of it when I heard about the failure of Goldtrail. Unfortunately Airflights used Goldtrail as their agents.

But all should be well and I am now booked on the same flight as before. All that now needs doing  is to complete the hideously complicated claim form to be submitted to the CAA. This will most likely take all day.

I loathe all forms. They are the invention of the Evil One.

  1. How unfortunate, Amicus, but despite the form-filling, I’m relieved to hear that your annual holiday will still be possible.

  2. I’m pleased to hear that your holiday can still go ahead, the form filling is a necessary evil of what is fast becoming a very litigious socity, they like to cover all the bases; and most are in the process of updating their small print since Mount Unpronoucable blew it’s top in Iceland.

  3. Big problem the way companies farm out their services to each other, you can rarely tell who actually is providing whatever. Very difficult when something goes badly wrong. Equally wrong in my book is who owns who nowadays. Companies are far too big.

  4. IF you paid by credit card (not debit) aren’t they responsible for your money?

I know you still fill the same forms in but your cash is safe.

  5. Good that your hols can still go ahead, Amicus, despite the tedious form-filling. Lots of people were sleeping on the floor in Dalaman Airport, Turkey in the small hours of Sunday morning who I presumed to be victims of the Goldtrail crash. Nightmare.

  6. There are a number of people here who seem to agree with you Rick ; Ferret and Bravo being two of them.

Turkey is one of the places I would consider visiting.

  7. Amicus, a joy to see you here.

We went to Turkey in 1988 so we obviously missed each other. Shame, really.

    I did like it there.

Not a bad holiday with lots of historical interest. Ephesus was the totally memorable bit.

  8. Well, Tina I hadn’t been before but the tiny bit of Aegean coast that we saw was astonishingly beautiful – all pine-clad mountains and clear, clean, warm turquoise sea. Very nice yachting territory, loads of history too as it was ancient Lycia but I have to admit I was mostly swimming or loafing about reading. 😀

Interesting you should mention Ephesus, John. I would have liked a look but it was just beyond striking distance and I’d promised that this hol would be total chill-out. Another time perhaps.

    There were tourists in Istanbul.

I didn’t visit any of the coastal resorts. It was part of a coach trip. Our passage through Turkey started at Lake Van and ended at the Greek border.

Among other things we visited Ankara and saw Atatutk’s mausoleum.

It was sad to stand in Hagia Sophia and think of all that was destroyed for ever in 1453.

  10. Yes that was the end of a very very long era. Not sure I’d be up for a city visit though. Can’t stand being hassled, which is why I’ll never go back to N Africa.

  11. Ah, I did not realise you were here, Amicus. Wish you the best in the horrid task of form-filling!
