On this 4th of July let us remember the history and legacy of the greatest land in the history of the world (after Australia and Uruguay for those who would argue that point with me), the United Kingdom. For better or worse that sceptred isle set the tone for the rest and no country, despite their pretensions, have been able to match her in influence and success. (Until 1997)
Wow! Christopher what set this off! I thought the 4th of July was absolutely sacred to the USA?
Aber…….das Vaterland müss/soll/kan nicht vergessen werden.
Double wow, Christopher. Nice surprise though!
Shall I call you Zebadee?
Boadicea: I am a staunch Tory and believe firmly that the premise for the War of Independence was based on greed and mis-information. The pro-independence side played up on people emotions and blatantly lied when it suited them. Samuel Adams, for example, one of the chief agitators would bribe people with booze to go along with him. On my father’s side, by the way, I am a direct descendent from a Colonel in Washington’s Continental Army who was known for his valour. I’m known to be the William Franklin of the family.
Araminta: oh, come on dahlink! You’ve always known were my loyalties are!
Pseu: you can call me Zebadee if you wish! I’ve been called many better and worse things in my life.
Bullshit.
Yes, most of the USA’s hyperpatriotic delusions are.
You are right, of course, Christopher but the Fourth of July?
OK, I should have trusted you! 🙂
What can I say? It seems a perfect time to stir the pot a little, wouldn’t you think? This year, however, I will avoid wearing my Cross of St George shirt based on the public mood.
So, you think that the T-shirt might just be a step too far? 🙂
Yes, thus I have stuck with playing recordings from Proms past on my MP3 player.
Hi, CO.
Why is this bullshit? I am proud of the fact that we got it completely wrong and totally alienated our relatives and friends to the point where they felt the need to write one of the finest statements of belief that I will ever read.
Doesn’t alter the fact, of course, that they were completely misguided, and that we should have blown them all away for their disloyalty to Good King George while we had the chance. Still, never mind. These things happen.
Happy Independence Day to you and to Spousal Unit.
Oops. I seem to have slightly screwed up the HTML; sorry!
