I’m in, the missus says fine so I’m planning.
Natal looks like a reasonable spot to use as a base.
We are looking for a small town like our own, we don’t care who gets drawn there, we’re just going to watch the football and enjoy the atmosphere.
I wasn’t aware that Sao Paulo was the most populous city in Brazil, I couldn’t go to Rio (too big) but I have to be at the coast.
It appears that both Recife and Natal are going to be host cities in 2014, which would make using one of them as a home base a whole lotta sense.
Anybody else want to join us?
When my baby smiles at me I go to……………………..
I’ve been singing this song for three days now, time I learned the words!

Howzit Soutie – I have embedded a leetle veedeo cleep about Carnaval in the hope that Mrs Soutie sees it. You see, at Carnaval, lots and lots of young ladies who normally wear sensible cardigans, albeit with significant bumps in the front, for the rest of the year suddenly take them off and disport themselves in a most wanton and disgraceful manner. It must be the heat or something.
You wouldn’t enjoy this at all and I must counsel you most strongly against this trip. Please send your flight tickets to OZ, The Cave, Portugal. Ta ever so!

OZ
Blimey, you are really serious about this football business, Soutie.
Well, good luck to you, but I have absolutely no desire to join you in this enterprise.
Soutie, Holland for the Cup!
Watch it OZ! Do not say a word about those young ladies in the Carnival. My daughter took up Latin Dancing (or whatever they call it) and a group from Oz, including her, set off to take part in the Carnival… I did see her costume – it was absolutely magnificent!
Enjoy yourself Soutie
Morning all
Oz is probably right, that’s disgraceful, don’t think that I could cope with all that, I’ll have a word with my travel agent, perhaps a couple of weeks at a Buddhist monastery in Nepal would be more enriching, I believe the scenery is quite nice too.
๐
Of course It might never happen.
Brazil is another of those 3rd world countries lacking infrastructure.
They have to build new stadia, sort out their public transport, they’ll never cope. It will of course be winter, who in their right minds wants to play or visit a world cup during a Southern Hemisphere winter?
Not to mention the poverty, where on earth will they get the money from?
I doubt if any fans will turn up, it’s a ‘long haul’ destination you know, there will be nobody there!
And the crime, will it be safe? I hear that those nasty policemen in Rio go round shooting people just for begging in the streets.
I think that I’ll delay my decision ’till FIFA announce a relocation to a proper country that’s more likely to cope, any suggestions?

Not being a football fan, I take it that Brazil is the next ‘home’ to the World Cup? As to your question where else? I rather think that there are few places in the world that can really ‘afford’ to host these events…
Morning Boa, yes Brazil is the next venue.
It’s thought that hosting this event cost South Africa somewhere in the region of ยฃ4 billion, I would say that 90% of this went into development and infrastructure, badly needed improvements to roads, hospitals, stadiums, airports, hospitals, public transport etc.
I see the improvements every single day.
My feeling was one of ‘I’d rather see the money spent on infrastructural development for future generations than end up in our politicians back pockets.’
Could we afford it? I think so (just)
I think SA’s image has been upgraded enormously by the WC. Whether that will count for much, only time will tell.
Janus good morning, thank you, that’s a very poignant comment. We have been told that the ‘advertising value’ of this event is in the ‘money can’t buy’ category.
Who knows?
I’ve always said that it’s all about the future, be it increased business opportunities, investment or simply tourist numbers, time will tell.
Amen to that! Although I read somewhere that there is expected to be unrest after the event is over because many poor people feel that they have not had a fair share of the ‘profits’. However, I do treat all ‘media hype’ to lashings of salt… ๐
