As some of you might know, my son and I are lovers of motorbikes, we don’t ride them much, we are more into building them for a sort of hobby kind of thing.
Here is a picture of the latest frame we picked up early this very morning, it’s not the actual frame, I found the picture on the net, the second picture is also from the net but it kind of resembles the new bike we’re going to build.

But this blog is not really about the frame or the bike but how we managed to get our hands on the frame.
You see, we went out to a garage sell just to look and see what we could pick up, sometimes one can find carburators, gearboxes, etc, fairly cheap so we armed ourselves with $1000 and off we went.
We ended up in Helensburgh, half way between Sydney and Wollongong at a bikie’s house, he had all sort of parts and buried somewhere in there we found this bike frame.
we wanted it real bad, it was perfect.
“How much?” – we asked ……..
“$4000 Dollars” – was the reply
Now, when you’re going to spend up to $30,000 dollars on building a bike, $4000 dollars is cheap, but we didn’t have the money so we offered to give him the $1000 as a deposit until Monday when we could get to the bank and withdraw the rest.
His reply was expected
“No @#$#@ chance, no cash, no frame, others will buy it today” – Said the bikie. The place was full of people and most of them were already eying the frame.
My son being a quick witted kind of bloke quickly took the bloke aside, had a quiet word with him then they both went inside the house to check something on the internet; a few minutes later they both came back full of smiles (something was up, I know my son, I was about to lose money) 😦
“Dad, give him the $1000 Dollars and your new ROLEX watch” – said my son
“@#$#@-off!!!, that’s the $10,000 watch you got me for my birthday last January; No @#$### way!!!!” – said I in disgust.
“Dad, give him the $1000 Dollars and your new ROLEX watch, please; you know I want that frame” – said my son again, giving me that look that only we understand.
The Rolex was an Oyster Perpetual DatejustII and they really are valued at $8,000 – $10,000 dollars.
So with much grumbling and swearing I took off this perfect watch, gave it to the bikie and off we went with our new, second hand frame. I was devastated, I loved that watch, fitted me like a glove, kept perfect time and to top it all off had been a gift from my son, I valued it dearly.
So I said to my son …..
“Mate, that was wrong, giving away my watch for a frame wasn’t right, you know how much I loved that watch, on top of that it was worth far more that the frame”
He burst out in laughter
“That’s alright, Dad, I bought 4 of them in Bali last year for $50 bucks, I’ll give you another one when we get home, they’re just cheap copies”
😦
Perfect (?)
Yes, Pseu – Perfect in every detail, you can’t tell the difference, even the glass had the Rolex logo engraved on it. The Balinese have these little engineering rooms and they build and sell watches by the thousand.
Have to admit, my son run a beauty past me, all along I thought I had a real Rolex 🙂
Best not ride with the Comancheros for a while either, when the bikie finds out he sold the frame for a $1000 Dollars and a cheap watch he’s going to be rather upset. 😦
IS, I worked for Puch many moons ago – if you’d asked I could’ve done you a very tasty deal on frames and the rest!
Janus – That’s a shame, my son and know lots of people interested in frames, etc, especially Harley ones, very rare and far too expensive here in Australia.
PS – Can we do a deal and pay with ROLEX watches? 🙂
