The match of the Century

Brazil is soon to play Portugal, the Brazilian coach has already stated – “If we don’t win I’m going to have trouble when I get home”

That’s the nice way of saying that if Brazil loses the match then he best not return home, exile on foreign soil is always preferable to been turned into a human bonfire by an angry Brazilian crowd (it has happened a few times during national competitions)

The Portugese team is awesome, in their last meeting against Argentina in South America they destroyed the argentinians and left them knowing they stand no chance against them.

Regardless of who wins however, I urge you all to watch this one game, it will be your only chance “ever” of actually watching a real game of BEAUTIFUL SOCCER.

What’s more, I can assure you, this one match will have very few fouls or dirty tricks, both teams will be playing the real game, a show of skills meant as a tribute to their home crowds.

Forget the British, The Uruguayans or anyone else, when it comes to true soccer, this one game will truly be the match of the century.

What’s more, since both teams have already qualified for the final 16 there is a real possibility both teams might meet again for the finals. If this happens then this World Cup might well become the best World Cup EVER.

  1. “I think Portugal and Brazil have what it takes to put on a great football show for the world,” Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz said. “Let’s see whether we and Brazil can make fans focus on football and less on the Jabulani (ball) and the vuvuzelas.”

  2. I thought Your-a-guy was your bag, IS? I only hope that we don’t get any thespian antics today. Luckily the Greeks and Italians are out – and they are the masters at cheating. I have noticed btw that Adonis Himself, the Portuguese Ronaldo, is too keen on the big screen to akshully play these days and Deco is half the man he used to be.

  3. Janus – I like Uruguay’s style but I have to admit that this coming game is exceptional, it’s already written up all over the news as a “must watch” game. Since neither team needs to win then they will turn it into what the real World Cup is all about, “exhibition soccer”; the one time when players are allowed to show off. It should be great.

PS – Keep you eyes on their hands, both teams are known as “tappers” to throw players of balance during a fast run, quite legal and awesome to see …. very rare stuff 🙂

  4. ………”both teams are known as “tappers” to throw players of balance during a fast run, quite legal….” How can that be legal? The rule is play the ball. A shoulder charge is OK but tapping can’t be!

  5. Tapping another player’s hands while on the run is the only form of purposeful “contact” allowed in soccer, it’s not in the rule book, therefore “legal”. Quite common in South American games, great to watch, hard to see. 🙂

PS – I might add here that in South America we consider Soccer to be a non-contact sport, not so considered in Australia where they are to used to Rugby. 😦

  6. I’ve just watched the first half. More violence than at ice hockey derbies. more yellow cards than ever awarded in any first half at the WC. More cynicism and cheating than I’ve ever seen. 😦

  7. Janus – You’re ever so right, it’s a real shocker, they’ve managed to turn what could have been a great game into a spectacle fit only for the blind.

That’s the last time I do PR for the game.

Let’s hope for a better second half, it just started 😦

  8. Parasitic, insect brained, wannabe famous bunch of mindless donkeys.

That’s all I have to say about both teams, the poor audience must be feeling robbed of their hard earned money.

    😦

  9. All that capacity crowd who paid so much, and travelled so far to see that game, and the aerosols reward them with that total disgrace of a game. One thing it wasn’t and thats sport. Both teams should be fined 10 points and kicked out of the cup. Disgraceful.

  10. Ferret – Disgraceful is the right word alright, they were bloody awful, not one hint of what soccer is meant to be all about.

    I feel robbed 😦

  11. Erm, good evening all. Let me tell you all a little story and please bear with me on this.

I was at school with a couple of blokes who have subsequently risen to the rarified higher echelons of the Civil Service in London. When the ‘Yes Minister’ and ‘Yes Prime Minsiter’ comedy series were at their height on the BBC, I asked them both if they found the series funnny. “Of course”, said one, “but we just laugh in different places”, the point being that there were ‘in house’ jokes which only the Civil Service would understand.

Today I went down to the village and watched Brasil vs Portugal in a crowded and smokey village bar in the company of a friend of mine, former professional footballer, Premier League household name in his day and all that. He thought the game was brilliant in terms of both individual and team skills and explained exactly why (at my continued prompting) throughout the match. It was a revelation to listen to him, the point in this case being that perhaps there is one game for the spectators and another for those who have actually been there. 🙂

  12. Bravo – There is a further problem.

The English are facing the Germans alone.
The French and Italians have given up and gone home.
    The Americans have just appeared.

Do you ever get that sense of dejà-vu?

  13. Mornin’ Bravo – Yeah. Had an early night and woke early too. It’s still dark here, but I can’t just fester in the pit when awake. Howsit with you?

  14. OZ, I woke at 3.30 – already bright sunshine! Went back to bed. Liked your #18!! 🙂
