As much as I admire Joan Sutherland I still prefer Callas’ version of this, which I think I posted some weeks ago. On the other hand her Traviata is pretty wonderful. Except for the annoying prompter in the background this is an amazing performance,
The Callas “Vissi d’arte”, also with Tito Gobbi as Scarpia.
Tosca is synonymous with Callas, I agree. I was prompted to use Sutherland after watching the Paverotti life the other night, and seeing the influence she had on him.
