Ashes to Ashes

Did any of you see the final episode on friday night??  You who don’t live in the country, have you been introduced to the new ‘god’ that is Gene Hunt on BBC worldwide or on iplayer?  If not, get yourself over to it and watch this series.

Gene is a good, well not all the time, copper who, to me, gets the job done.  His methods would make today’s PC curl up their toes and die.  He is an over the top exageration of coppers back in the time, who, for one reason or another, through hell or high water felt that if they wanted to convict some ‘scum’ he would go ahead and do it.

Talking to those of you who saw it, did you think that it got the ending that it deserved?? Did it explain enough to you of what they were doing there, or did you feel cheated?

I think that the ending brought the ending together perfecttly, they made it poignant adnd personal to all of the characters involved, not just Gene and Bolly.  Have we been twisted enough as humans, through the medium of television to expect happy endings, not that this was not maybe the case, but did you feel that it concluded well?

I watch quite alot of television, not always main streamed tv, but I have seen some programs that leave me feeling ‘should I have wasted all that time watching this’ or ‘wow, that was it, you have got it’

Funny, fickle world this television business.

  1. Didn’t see any of it, Kate but I knew a couple of drugs squad officers who were just as you describe. Effective, but totally a law unto themselves. Wouldn’t be tolerated now by the fast-tracked academic career types who seemm to dominate the higher echelons of the force now.

  2. OK; I have to confess that I haven’t watched it either, Kate.

Help, but honestly, most of it is a waste of time. Er, that’s really unfair, if I haven’t watched it, but…. I do appreciate that I may be missing out, but …..

All right, convince me that I really need to find my TV; I lost it some years ago and I don’t really miss it.

  3. Kate, greetings from sunny Venice.

Please do not give away any of the ending. I am in deep enough excrement about this anyway.

We left on Friday afternoon and I am not in a position to categorically assure Mrs M. that I set the Sky box to record the final episode. I think I did but just maybe I didn’t.

I thought I would get away with it by saying we could watch it on BBC i-player, forgetting that it is not available outside the UK.

I am not being allowed to buy any English papers for the week’s stay in case said ending is discussed. We get back to the UK on Saturday so the i-player will have gone by then.

Wish me luck for next Sunday when we get back to Embra. If it’s not been recorded, I am dead.

For the avoidance of doubt, I think that there is a slight chance that Mrs M. may just agree with you about the ‘god’-like Gene Hunt. Could be wrong.

  4. PS: Kate; if you ever feel you want to comment on any of my posts; but I appreciate they may not be of interest, then please feel free.

I will not be rude, dismiss your opinions or anything remotely like that. Moreover, if someone is impolite to you, then it will be dealt with or deleted.
