My fine fellow should know that there just happens to be a Tull for that. 🙂
A bit oblique, perhaps, O Furry One? But enjoyable.
Theres a Queen link chum, I admit its a bit weak but you keep using Pav and I have nothing left for him.
Pavarotti had his detractors but deserves great credit for the work he did in popularising opera and bringing it to the attention of the public. In his later years he sang with many popular musicians with some tremendous results. I think he thoroughly deserved his iconic status.
No Beef From Me Zen,
It just isn’t my bag.
He was the top man in opera fair enough.
But its like someone offering me a disease and saying “We will make sure you get the best one ever”.
I just love music of all types, as long as it well performed. My preference is opera/classical, but defitely not exclusive!
I too admire Pavarotti for the work he did in making opera accessible to a wider public – as well as for the voice 🙂
It’s good, but ‘best ever’ is stretching it somewhat.
Minty, that I love.
Aah, well so do I Zen, so I hoped you would too. 🙂
Nice Minty MBE,
There are loads of those around and I love em too. This is a personal fav. :o)
Hee Hee,
While I was looking for that, I found this.
I’m not overly fond of rock/classical fusions; sorry Zen!
I think that it’s because it makes both genres sound a bit, I dunno, cliched or something.
It distorts the emotional subtleties of classical music, while blunting the edge of rock by pouring syrupy sentimentalism all over it…
I do like to hear stuff that does take from different genres in a sexy and new way though. I think that’s why I like dance artists like Massive Attack or – dare I say it, Gorillaz. They are not musicians; they are creators of sound, who take the original source and tweak it in an effortless fusion of layers and genres.
Rob D’s clubbed to death – based around Elgar’s Enigma Variations.
Sorry to go off topic but…
Is anyone else having grief getting into MyT? It went down around half 3 this afternoon and I can’t get back in.
Elgar, sigh, now you’re talking my language:
The movie was pretty good too – allowing for hollywooditis, caught the flavour pretty damn well.
Ferret; they’ve taken it down as a live link from telegraph.co.uk, so can only assume that it’s MyT RIP…
It is down for maintenance. It was planned, according to Kate Day’s post this morning, but it seems to have happened rather sooner than expected.
Either that or they have blown the whole thing up! It would have been easy to post a message explaining this, when one tries to access the site, but hey, that’s MyT for you.
Hello Ara! That explains it then.
And there was me getting used to the idea of a life-less-navel-gazingy…
Well, I’m in two minds about the whole things as well, Claire!
Glad to hear it Ara!
If MyT does sink, it might just make me grow up as well. Perish the thought! 🙂
Sorry Bravo, missed that.
Yes, love Elgar.
There was a techno version of the old Albinoni thing by William Orbit a few years ago. It was pretty shite though, so I’m not going to bother posting it!
That explains a lot. It’s a right struggle being a part timer on MyT. Could not understand where it had been and gone and went.
In re blog, all cross overs (aka cross culture, apparently) are keech, in my opinion. If a thing is worth doing well, then it’s worth doing it well in its own genre, a mon avis.
Whatever, just in case we are indeed living through history and seeing MyT sinking slowly into cyber history:-
Here is one from the music to “The band of Brothers.” Probably ‘the’ classic wartime movie for a long time. The theme tune was really evocative. After 9/11, the Brigade of Guards played it at Buck house at the first changing of the guard and also at the Cenotaph the same year.
Thanks for that Toc. Katherine Jenkins is one of those singers who can send shivers down my spine – being DDG doesn’t hurt either.
And I agree about Band of Brothers – excellent series, telling it near as dammit like it is.
Pav and Queen – Too much loving
Oh yes yes yes, love it.
See you later.
Well Met Mr Zen,
My fine fellow should know that there just happens to be a Tull for that. 🙂

Cross-culture? Is this the greatest ever?
I love all the LSO stuff: wonderful.
Minty, that I love.
