  1. I saw her show in the 80’s. Just as good on stage as she was on recordings.

  2. Thanks, Zen yes, I totally agree, Val. V slow broadband today so I’ll leave you to try this one, Zen
Perfect for today with rain trickling down the windows or the dead of night, on repeat, when all else is silent.

Groove Armada. The Hands of Time.

  3. Elkie Brookes! Blimey blast from past. I remember watching her when I was about 10, singing that No more the Fool song on Top of the Pops – my mum was shaking her head tutting about ‘some women having no brains’ in the manner she usually reserved for the Bangles. But oh, I so wanted to be Elkie…

  4. I’m not sure who Ekyie Brooks or totp is but for relaxation and stimulation I always listen to The Magic Flute. Just magic.

  5. On the contrary zen but so much of today’s commercial hype leaves me cold. There is absolutely no depth or range to a lot of today’s music. This is a simple pop song and it’s all been done before so why not listen to the original scores is what I say. I have a degree in musical studies admittedly and although I do have a few fave modern bands, I doubt that you would have heard of them.

  6. Katy; hiya. Here’s one of my Mozart faves, from the Marriage of Figaro. Gets me going every time!

  7. Elkie Brooks is the best female singer to come from the U.K.She is in the “Guinnes Book of Records ” as the most charted female album artist in the last 30 years. She is highly respected by people in the music industry. She has recorded with . Cat Stevens, Humphry Lyttelton, the Royal Philharmonic, etc etc. Vinegar Joe with Robert Palmer. Her ability to sing with greatness in many styles is amazing.
