All my life I have been interested in Politics, following events closely and keeping myself au fait with the prevailing trends. However, this General Election Campaign has been thoroughly unbearable. It seems to have been going on for the last 12 months and, quite honestly, I am bored to death with the whole rigmarole. In fact, what with the Expenses Scandal, an unelected Prime Minister, and two not very impressive Pretenders I have, for the first time in my life made a Protest Vote – I have a postal vote, and it’s gone! I was more interested in watching the Snooker final last night, than the communal mudslinging on the News. Somehow, I don’t think I am alone in my ennuie. Bring back Oliver Cromwell, or Winston Churchill, and let’s have some leadership!
I’ll drink to that Zen. By the way, speaking of the snooker, this years world championship was the best I’ve seen for a while but, this years final was a bit lack lustre, the boys were totally shagged out and tired, bless em. I don’t think the latest rotten news to hit the game had any bearing on it either.
Now then, back to your post. I concur with every word you say, I have even toyed with the idea of not voting at all, but my father would turn in his grave “”You must vote” he always said. All these politicians are liars, thieves and bull sh*****’s. Every part of this election has been stage managed like never before, none of it is in the real world, its been out played on a film set.
Somebody dig Winnie up please.
“We’re doomed Mr Mannering, we’re doomed I tell you”.
“Don’t give them your name Pike” 🙂
Zen: I am probably in exactly the opposite mode. My interest in politics is minimal as a general rule although I keep abreast vaguely.
I am riveted by events leading up to the election, if only because however I look at the alternatives, anything is better that Gordon Brown.
No one could do any worse in my opinion and if I were not a staunch supporter of the Conservative party I would be tempted to tear up my vote too. But it may just allow Brown to succeed and thus necessitate leaving the country.
I have to agree Zen, it has been a bore.
One lot of liars against another.
Nicely put Zen. Now start looking for your ideal candidate for 2018, otherwise you’ll be moaning again then!
Paul, somehow I think it will not be that far away. My candidate – Boris.
Paul, why 2018?
Just read this excellent post. Think of elections as short but sweet breaks from the interference of gubmint. Since the Westminster lot turned their attention to each other, the Pound has gained and the economy as a whole has shown signs of recovery. The moral is: we need more elections.
