Tea time politics

What party to vote for is of huge interest to our under age son. He’s 16, and really pretty clued up. He really wishes he could have the vote this May. At present I feel he is better informed than me about the differences in the policies. Just now after a tea-time discussion he sent me the following link  so I can clarify my thoughts.

How do you fare on this?

No time to lose. No, time to lose. Make time to stand and stare.... Did you see that?

  1. Interesting post, Pseu. I’m totally disillusioned with the three main parties right now. Thanks for the link; Will follow that up; maybe it will change my mind.
KNow what you mean about teenagers. Their analysis of linguistics in class is WAY sharper than mine. They never cease to amaze; that’s why I love teaching ’em.

  2. I haven’t done it yet. But plan to. The thing about teenagers is the black and whiteness of it all.

  3. And I know we’re not supposed to talk about Dark Side, but your short story this time is fab. Read, one and all, please 😉

  4. If it was my son I’d give him my vote. Ask him who he would vote for if he could and then tell him that you’ll do it for him.

Of course in return he would have to keep his room tidy, do homework, help in the garden, wash the car (perhaps that’s pushing it a bit) but you get the idea.

(Of course where you put your cross on May 6th will always be your secret but he doesn’t have to know that :))

  5. Thanks Soutie for the idea! I shall certainly take the chance to talk about politics with him and engaging in the test will help with that.

  6. I am 100% BNP according to the link.

Of course they have the policies I would love to see, I just don’t want them applied in the manner Griffin would like. UKIP will get my vote.

  7. Thanks Claire.
I must get going. back soon, Ferret to do the questionnaire and find out what I should vote!

  8. BTW I have added the story to my own wordpress blog, in case anyone wants to read without going over to the other side….

  9. Ferret. I did the similar test that the DT published here:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/election-2010/7541285/How-should-I-vote-in-the-General-Election-2010.html

That pegged me as a likely BNP voter also – despite the fact that I had specifically selected the BNP as a party I would NOT vote for.

Since you and I differ in outlook on a number of things – as well as agreeing on a number of things, of course, (well, we would, with our backgrounds, wouldn’t we?) – I would suggest that shows that, on a number of major issues, the BNP acurately reflect the views of a sizeable number, maybe even a majority , of voters across traditional party lines. Given the BNP stance on most issues, it is a rather frightening thought that they might actually do rather well in the poll.

  10. Poll are just another bunch of lies and bluster.

Be honest Bravo, have you ever altered your vote on the strength of what the polls tell you?

  11. Ferret, by poll, I meant the general election. The answer to your question, however, is No, and here’s why. I’m not a great believer in mass democracy. The idea that the vote of someone who is barely literate, knows nothing beyond the confines of the limits of his local pub, the betting shop and the local soshe is of equal value to (mine) is insert educated, literate, well travelled and well-informed person of your choice, is ridiculous. I would be in favour of a multiple vote system.

And, before I am accused of elitism, snobbery, or anything of that ilk, let me just remind wannabe accusers that I am, and have written, in support of mass education and mass development as well as equality of opportunity for all.

  12. Universal emancipation was the death knell of common sense in voting.
Reduced the whole thing to bread and circuses.

Did this one and the DT, no surprises. BNP all round.
great pity they are led by such a noxious little man.

  13. Afternoon all. Just popped back to do the on-line ‘vote for policies’ thing to find the site is down for maintenance…

  14. Don’t worry Pseu, you’ll be UKIP 😉 My friend mailed a while ago to say she’d done it and she came out as UKIP…..”I’ve always voted conservative, what’s UKIP?” she said. Women eh? 😉
