The Apple iPad hits the stores tomorrow but only in the States, queue’s are forming already as Mac fans and future fans wave dollars in the air to be first with the new. Us fans in the UK and the rest of the world have to wait until later this month to get out fingers on one. I have heard of a few who, as you view this, are winging their way over the Atlantic from the UK to be the first on these shores to have one, I’m keen but not that keen. Will you be first in the queue when they arrive? Or will you wait for the next generation of iPads to emerge which will have a few of the things missing from the launch model as per the iPhone a few years ago. I came across that picture this morning which just about sums up the iPad for me, do you know which film the iPad has been added to in the pic? It fits to perfection. If their are any Americans reading this, have a happy ‘P’ day.
The new picture shows queue’s building up nicely in New York, can I offer anyone more shares in Apple?

Why didn’t they release it yesterday?
I’m really struggling to find out just what use it would be to me… ๐
who will be the first to drop one and crack the screen?
boa
You are not the first person to say that to me, I think we have to look beyond the hypwe and the ‘must have’ gene to see the real value of this piece of kit. You already have a PC and maybe a smartphone so it’s right you should question its place in your life. I can only say that it gives a very convenient place for you to carry around all the files, pictures, videos and emails that may be important to you without the bother of a heavy laptop and keyboard. It also has a very ‘simple’ operating system that is always on and offers a very rich internet experience. I could go on a bit but will only mention the eReader book capability. I have a Sony eReader which I find invaluable as I do a lot of travelling and therefore do not have to stuff my luggage with books, but it is not the easiest thing to load, I still have to use a PC or Mac to do so, with the iPad you can load directly using Wi-Fi or 3G and that’s a big bonus apart from the way I will now be able to download and read news media on the move, That’s enough from me before you think I work for Apple, I dont but I sure would like to do a couple of days a week in one of their stores when I retire, I could run the ‘Boomers’ desk!

From what I have read this machines are very robust and can take a fair bit of punishment but it’s a fair point. I remember dragging a laptop from my desk a few years ago and cracking the screen.
Boadicea, I thought the same at first, but I’ve watched the ‘tutorial’ and it seems to me to be a pretty useful piece of equipment that is multi-functional. Not so tiny that you are peering at the screen, but not so heavy it’s like carrying a laptop around. Good for me to have to take to the boat for example and to use on the move. I want to go into Apple and have a look when they have it in stock in London, and then I’ll keep an eye on the prices and if/when they come down, it may be a good option.
I was reading some of the reviews on line yesterday and they all seemed very positive. Like anything that Apple do, they will make a killing. After the iPad, the new iPhone?

Deffo the iphone Mk 4, should be about June or July. Agree about the reviews, even some of the hardened anti iPadders seem to be coming around.
Bearsy has just said that a few years ago I’d have been in the front of the queue! But I’m a bit more selective on what I buy these days, having bought an Ipod and found no use for it whatsoever.
I have two PCs – and my laptop is super light! I can’t stand Apple computers, wouldn’t have one if it came free – well I might take it and give it away!
I presume by ‘smartphone’ you mean one that takes photos and sings and dances? We can’t get mobile coverage where we live, and despite having had a mobile phone since they first came out (see comment above!) I rarely use the thing. The camera is not sufficiently good for the photos I need to take.
I’m sort of interested in the ebook bit, but have never bothered to investigate the cost – ‘cos I’m still addicted to paper!
I think I’ll be giving it a miss this time around – ๐

Ok, fair enough, I’ll just have to forgo the commission on a no sale. Re the iPod though, I’ve had mine four years now and have played the thing to death, It’s great in the car as it has an interface that shows the playlist on the SatNav, give it another go Bo.
I’m waiting for a sale on clay tablets and stylii.
No competition from me Christina – I’m waiting for the parchment and quill sale. ๐
2001: A Space Odyssey.
Well spotted tambman, fits in well don’t it?
I want an iPhone, an iPad, and this:

Now the parrot would be useful – I’d be able to find exactly which house leaves the dog out barking all hours….
Referring to your pic, OMG, do they do one for right-handed fork users?
bravo
I’ll bet there are many little snoopers down at SS Headq….sorry…Town Halls who are dribbling and salivating at the thought of one of these buzzing over back gardens to check out compost heap sizes and hose pipe usage.
I’ll have no leftist remarks on my blog thank you very much!
OMG, indeed, what we will need then are these:
…feed it a bit more power…
Now you’ve done it, this site will be invaded by animal rights activists, screaming ‘save the mozzy’.
This actually brings up an interesting question. If you own a property, how far does the ‘ownership’ extend? We know that, should you find oil inder your back yard, it’s yours, so, what about iverhead?
Quote from my son, (Network Engineer,) ‘just figured out why the ipad is going to sell millions. Its a computer for the bog!’
