Contrecour to St. Lambert (Montreal) – July 11, 2013

Made an early start to try to get locked through at least one of the big locks on the ship canal.  Painfully slow progress south towards Montreal, revolutions for 8 knots but only making 4 over the ground (that’s why people do not do this trip in this direction) the river currents are against us all the way from here to Ottawa.

Another of the biggies, they look pretty inconspicuous at first…

Not much s

Then they get bigger

But s

Then they get really big

 Big s

Then they are past and gone.

gone s

The Montreal skyline emerges

 Mtl s

We swing through the port and into the canal, following another giant.

 Rive Sud s

Then…… maintenance delay  only an hour for us, some had been waiting three.

  Delay s

Finally packed us all in one end of the lock at three pm

 Pack s

Not sure why, the other end was empty

Why s

Out by four and into a little lagoon next to the canal.

Get to sit and watch them go by during dinner.

Lagoon s

Into the Ottawa River tomorrow.
