….. in Pennsylvania in the 150th anniversary year of the Battle Of Gettysburg.
You would go on a tour of the battlefield. This the view from Little Round Top, the statue being of General Warren who first realised the strategic importance of the steep hill. Seeing the distances involved, and the famous landmarks of the battle; Cemetery Hill, Little Round Top, Seminary Ridge, etc. really brings home to you the enormity of the battle.

I like your photos FEEG, but I must take issue with your use of the word year in conjunction with anniversary. It is one of my pet peeves, but don’t take it personally.
Doesn’t worry me, Sipu, but if you have a problem with the phrase, what would you suggest we use instead (The dates are 1st-3rd July). I am relaxed about it.
Nice pic. FEEG. Funny how the generals always get the statues.
Lovely picture, FEEG.
Hello FEEG. Looks like you had a great time. Did you get a chance to partake in any of the re-enactment battles? Come on, let us know. Which part did you play? 🙂
Hello, JW. Good to see you back.
Hello Araminta. And a big thank you to yourself and Bilby for your warm messages on Dolores’ blog.
I would merely have said, ‘150th anniversary’. The word, ‘year’ was tautological, in my humble opinion.
They only have one full re-enactment a year, according to the guide, although this year there will be one on each day of the actual anniversary, I think, but there are groups who camp around the battlefield re-enacting various scenarios. We saw some guys re-enacting setting up a Union camp. I guess I would have made a good general, but not Robert E. Lee in this case, as Pickett’s Charge was his first major error, and cost the Confederates the battle, and possibly the war.
I suppose if one were to be pedantic, this is not correct either. “Anniversary” is derived from the Latin for “returning each year” meaning a point in time during that year, so I guess it would be more accurate to say “the year containing the 150th anniversary”. Still, as I said, it does not worry me as long as people understand the meaning. 🙂
Hmm, wrong lot won!
Splendid photo, FEEG.
Hi JW!
So good to see you again. 🙂
You too, Bilby. Cheers!
