One’s favourite royal is concerned. He’s afraid his future first grandchild might be female, marry an RC and thereby convert the monarchy to the Roman way of worship. Which raises a few interesting questions, I’m sure. Like: Wouldn’t it be best for him and his subjects if he himself abjured his Divine Right on accession? He must be one of only a few who a) believe that he is on an equal footing with the Godfather in the Vatican, b) want him (the PoW) as head of the CoE and c) care what a monarch does in the privacy of his/her own chapel. Or is he?
Big Ears also worries about all his fellow dukes and other hereditary peers, if the first-born son should no longer inherit as of right. What is the problem? As far as I can see the silver-spooned girls seem to be perfectly capable of rivalling their brothers in privileged education, conspicuous consumption and proxy child-rearing. Or does Charles suffer from the ‘Enry ‘Iggins Syndrome? ” Why can’t a woman……….be more like me?”
I love it when someone takes the silver spoon out of the mouths of the privileged and beats them over the head with it!
I would have thought that, by now, the Windsors would know what gender their latest addition will be.
As far as I’m concerned female primogeniture (whether silver-spooned, privileged education, conspicuous consumption or proxy child-rearing) should have been the ‘order of the day’ from the beginning! At least one can be sure that succession-by-blood (if that is really what is wanted) happens…
Nah! The real question is “Why can’t a man be more like a woman!’
🙂
Boa, maybe the gubmint is rushing through its legislation because William has tipped them off!
I have a strenuous objection to this so called government wasting their time on the ‘chaff’ of queer marriage, primogeniture, Lords reform etc etc , none of which were in their last manifesto and not tackling immigration, border control and the EUSSR which they did signal they might get round to!
Frankly you may dislike HRH Charles, but he has more common sense and genuine love for his country than the time serving creeps in so called government who spend their time arse licking the EU commissariat until they too may profit sucking at the teats of the European sow!
I see no good reason to change any tradition that has worked perfectly adequately for the last thousand years. And certainly not at the behest of fat, greedy, flabby, creeping grubs of the ilk of Cameron and Cleggover.
If people wish to change tradition, then it should be done by plebiscite. These vermin have no mandate.
Christina, I’m amazed at your commitment to male supremacy and privilege. The UK does not rule by plebiscite and never did. General elections provide the mandate.
General elections are supposed to provide the mandate but manifestos are not implemented. it is a bloody crying shame plebiscites are not introduced for a lot of things, queer marriage for example wouldn’t have got off the ground for one.
Well, we could have a sort of plebiscite, Janus. A Peasants’ Revolt or modern equivalent? When it comes to adorning lampposts … I’ve got a little list!
Actually, Sheona, I have got quite a large list!
Rule by plebiscite, or referendum, would not be such a bad thing, because:
a) The things voted on would not be trivial, like a lot of the present day parliamentary discussion
b) there would be FAR FEWER but more important laws would be made and agreed by the majority!
Dream on, FEEG! First have a referendum on what’s important. Next get a majority vote! Easypeasy.
Thursday: it transpires Her Maj has already decreed that a girl will be a princess. So my guess is that the Privy Council has already discussed the primogeniture issue and Her Maj has given her OK. So the PoW remains but a bystander. Yes!
