What is it with Hillary and Northern Ireland?
She just can’t keep away – even when she’s in charge of her country’s foreign relations and the happenings in a small part of a relatively friendly European state must be of minor significance – both personally and politically.
After her last visit she concocted some tales of derring-do – ‘How I Masterminded the Peace Process’ and ‘Under Fire inBelfast’ – which can hardly have endeared her to the provincials. This time the blurb talks about financial advice – so I wonder how she’ll spin her benevolence after her visit. Whatever she says, it will certainly appeal to the Irish voters back home – who will be called upon to recognise her continuing show of bravery and concern when she runs for President. I could be wrong.
You could be wrong, but I strongly suspect you are not! She does as much as Harriet Harperson to damage the reputation of women in politics!
I’m having a full-blown frizzy fur moment. On Sky they’re showing ‘Billary’ up on her chunky hind legs at a press conference saying that violence gets you nowhere. Beside her is a grinning Martin McGuinness, second minister of Northern Ireland, chauffeured cars, state banquets, etc, gratis, including MP’s salary and expenses despite never having taken the Loyal Oath or taken his seat at Westminster. Of course violence pays – just ask Mick.

Your assumption is likely correct, Janus. Irish voters in the US are an important voting bloc.
In many Irish pubs throughout the county — be it in Boston, Chicago, Milwaukee, etc. there are still collection tins for the IRA. One of their best fund-raisers is now an important figure in the House of Representatives.
Probably true but I just wish she had got the presidency this time round to save us all the bother.
Christopher – I would be amused by the efforts of every US President to ‘discover’ Irish roots (President O’Barmy being the most recent implausibly improbable candidate) were it not for the undercurrent of green-tinted Me’ri’cans who know cock all about history or about the Troubles who still support ‘The Boyos’. Listen, ignorant Septics, how would you feel if the rest of the world developed a warm, ignorant, fuzzy and particularly financially generous feeling in favour of some organisation that taught its initiates how to fly and aim an aircraft, but not how to land?

Ozinho: “the undercurrent of green-tinted Me’ri’cans who know cock all about history or about the troubles who still support ‘the boyos'”. You mean like the one I once had the misfortune of having to deal with you didn’t know that the Republic of Ireland has existed since 1949 and that The Irish Free-state was established in 1922? I have a very low opinion of the US and most Americans. I really hope that next year will be my last full year in the country. Wish me luck with the Australian job hunting! I’ll have no choice but to go back to Europe otherwise.
Christopher – Go to Aussie. You won’t regret it.

OZ: that is my plan, Europe is by Plan C.
Hillary: “I know Naomi Long.” Yeah, right. Here she goes again. Is that ‘know’ as in ‘pressed flesh once and had to be reminded who she is’?
New pic above shows her cosying up to a known killer. Oz is right – she should do the same with the terrorists in her own country.
