January can be rather dreary here in the UK, but we have had some lovely skies. Here are some photos to cheer you up – in case you need cheering up.
On Tuesday after work as I drove home (I had finished in good time) the sky was fantastic, and I decided to go down to the canal to take some shots, but arrived after the main colours had faded – too late really… but I like this one
This morning the sky was like this
Sunrise behind the rookery
and this afternoon the sky had a wide expanse of colour as I drove home from the vet’s
Private view.
(I stopped in a driveway to get this one. )

Oh, they are just lovely pictures, Nym, but especially the canal, which is superb.
I have been up and ready to go before dawn for the past two weeks ( don’t ask, but decorators start early) but haven’t managed to capture anything worth publishing. I keep thinking about it but by the time I’ve found my camera, it’s too late.
Lovely photos.
I hate getting up in the dark, but going to work just as the sun is rising can make up for that sometimes.
Before dawn isn’t that early at the moment, Ara!!
I hope your decorator won’t be too much longer though: it’s rather intrusive isn’t it?
It’s early for me, Nym!
Thank you, but we have a way to go, the whole house is my aim, I have put it off for far too long.
So, kitchen and utility, cloakroom and two bedrooms done, but there’s a lot more to do, sob. 😦
Nice pics. Pseu, red sky at night shepherd’s delight.
It was foggy and bleak here this morning, I ran into (literally) a flock of wild turkeys on the back road on the way home from breakfast at about eight am, there were about thirty of them, no camera of course but I tried to get them with my mobile, that was a bust, just a bunch of blobs in the mist. They will be back.
Is that the Kennet and Avon?
Lovely pics Pseu.
We have had oppressive heat and humidity this week. ‘Durban weather!’ 😦
Welcome cloudcover started to arrive late yesterday giving us a small lightening show last night and welcome rain/drizzle throughout the night, in fact it is still cloudy and raining lightly.
A very pleasant bit of relief. I want to watch a bit of cricket later today so I’ll be delighted if the cloud stays, the rain goes and the temps stay at the present 22c.
No turkeys here (other than the chaps I intend meeting up with later today ;))
Nothing quite like water to enhance a pretty view. I love the canals and have fond memories of them in many parts of old England and Wales.
Thanks Pseu, A little sunshine is certainly appreciated! Thanks for the time taken to capture and post .these three.
Glad you all enjoyed these shots.
LW The canal is the Oxford Canal http://www.canaljunction.com/canal/oxford.htm, which runs not too far from where we live.
Soutie: It is hard to imagine oppressive heat and humidity. It was chilly last night, with a hard frost lasting well into late morning in the shade.
It has been very dull here too most of the winter, Stygian gloom enough to get homicidal cabin fever.
Fortunately this week has been brighter so its off outside to dead head, never finished this autumn.
Nice pics.
Thanks Christina. Tonight the colours were less spectacular, as there was less cloud formation on the horizon. I never finish in the garden int he Autumn. I can always play catch up in the Spring.
