  3. Gosh, aren’t we getting erudite? I expect the Romans simply muttered “Gratias” – perhaps it even sounded like the Spanish “grassy arse”, to be more plebeian!

  4. Sheona – or even ‘tante grazie’, when in Rome! The soldiers though in Romania obviously tended to accentuate the much! ‘Multumesc!’
