Here’s a pic I took when driving through the Northern Cape and Free state. This particular stretch is part of the Hopetown (where diamonds were first discovered) and Hanover ‘short cut.’ Perhaps a distance of 160 mile or so.
The road goes through the Afrikaaner self proclaimed ‘independent’ Orania region (which would you believe has it’s own currency and flag amongst other things) and a very pretty part of the world it is too!
But not everything in The Free state is flat as the next pic will prove…

😉

great!
Now that’s a straight road! Nice one!
Hi Soutie, I passed through Orania earlier this year. It looked very quiet and peaceful. I traveled on that very road. I have just returned from another mammoth road trip, the final stages of which took me through the Northern Cape, including Upington. Had I known about the competition I would have been ideally placed to take a photo of the vanishing points of the roads which seem to go on for ever. Your second photo has two vanishing points, so I can see why you did not enter it.
Thank you Boa, I doubt if we could challenge the length of the highways in Oz
Ha ha Sipu, can’t think why on earth you were there, visiting relatives perhaps 😉
I was on my way back from Kimberley, last time I looked this was nowhere near the CT Harare route! 🙂
