Feedback please

I have changed the way in which slideshows are displayed in order to accommodate captions with two lines of text, which both Boadicea and Bravo have needed for their latest posts.

The modifications to the CSS sheets (don’t worry about it) have been tested in Chrome and Explorer 9, and everything works as it should in those two browsers.   I’ve also tested the alterations in SeaMonkey, which uses much of the same Mozilla code as Firefox, so all should be well there too.

But if something seems to be wrong with slideshows in your browser, I’d appreciate your comment with the details.

Thanks. 😀

  1. Fine on Google Chrome. Thanks Bearsy as this will allow a little more descriptive comment, right next to the picture where it should be, allowing for greater appreciation of the shot .

  2. Fine on Chrome and Firefox (Windows and Linux) and also the Miren and standard Android Browser on my Vega tablet. Have not tried Mrs FEEG’s iPad as I cannot find the rubber gloves 🙂

  3. Well, no wonder when I downloaded seamonkey it didn’t work; I placed my laptop inside a fish bowl so the monkeys could breath then I threw it up a tree branch so they could have somewhere to play! 😦

    🙂

  4. This is a useful modification. A related (techo, terminally boring) question, when I select images for inclusion into a slideshow I have to select them one by one, I cannot select the list of thumbnails or files by using any of the usual shortcuts (shift-enter etc.). Is this a function of my windows setup (Win. 7 ) or is it something in WordPress I need to correct?

  5. LW – Select where? On your computer, or in the Media store?

Boadicea is the expert on Slideshows, but I know she uploads her piccies as a batch from her machine without problems.

The Gallery facilities on WordPress are deficient in several ways, but most of the constraints can be worked around.

  6. Bearsy: Either place, I usually upload from a folder that has a bunch of different photos in it and I cannot make any selection other than “one” or “all” so I upload pictures one by one. Once the pictures are in the Media Library (usually on my own blog) I can only transfer one at a time to the slide show, tedious stuff. The WordPress instructional video clearly shows the selection of a group of pictures(not all) from the Media Library but does not explain what keystrokes are used. I’ll keep looking.

  7. LW – I use Windows 7.

I store all the pictures I am going to use on my machine so that I can make any alterations in size, crop or whatever else needs doing. Then I upload the lot in one batch – as Bearsy said – no problems. It takes a few minutes for them to “Crunch”!
Once they’ve all uploaded I click on the Insert Slideshow button.

If you need to add another picture you can use the insert picture button in edit mode and tell WordPress to insert the new image into into the post – it will automatically be put into the slideshow.

  8. Thanks Boadicea. The folder on your machine from which the pictures are uploaded contains only those pictures required for the slideshow right? I shall; have to try making a new folder for the files for each show and not using my general store of cropped and sized pictures, I will try this, it should make life easier.

  9. LW

I do have a folder specifically for pictures for the Chariot – but it contains all sorts of other rubbish, like the banner heading. I highlight those that I want to import (Control Click) and that works just fine. I haven’t changed any of the settings on my folders.

I find it far, far quicker to import straight from my machine – than from the media store!
