Last year Sam reached the finals of the Paris Open, but was defeated in an incredible display of unusual skill by her Italian opponent.
This year she’s stormed her way into the final of the US Open, to challenge the High Priestess of Tennis, Serena Williams. She’s the first Aussie lady to make it to the American final since 1977 – that’s a long time between drinks! Can she win her first Grand Slam title?
Frankly, I doubt it; Serena is some tough cookie. But although logic says no, my heart will be cheering for Sam.

Ah, okay then, I knew she was playing one of the Williams sisters overnight, didn’t realise that the other was still in or that the final was only today!

She beat Kerber 6-3 2-6 6-2 today and Serena beat Wozniacki in the other semi, a little later (30 minutes before I posted). The final, I believe, is on Monday.

Bearsy – me thinks Serena is on a mission! Its on live on Sky Sports 1 GMT about 21:30 this evening but bugger it, my TV has been taken for repairs yesterday as my son threw a whistle at the screen and poof, the picture has gone – it looks more like a broken cathedral window. (Yep I missed the mens semis as well.)
You’re right, Janus, that Serena is about all the talent just now. It’s interesting how one can take a liking or disliking to people one has never met. I “like” Jelena Jancovic, but not Ana Ivanovic. I only “disliked” McEnroe when he beat Borg, though I preferred Connors to JM generally.
I’m following the Stosur-Williams game on-line and it’s just confirming my dislike of Serena. She’s screeching abuse at the umpire, which is obviously unsettling Stosur. Play should be stopped now. She’s a disgrace to America, much worse than McEnroe.

As is ever the case with these things there can be freezing and pixellation of the picture and extreme frustration for the viewer.
