This chair has been with us for many years, providing a nice place to sit, and latterly growing pretty lichen – but earlier this year I was the final straw….
I have hunted and hunted for replacement slats, without success – and I know that getting someone in to make new ones would be more than the bench is worth as I have seen a replica on t’internet for £39.
So it seems the bench is another symbol of our throwaway society.

You can’t throw that away Pseu. Any decent timber yard will have lengths of wood of the correct dimensions for new slats and will cut them to size for you. All you need then is a lick of the old Cuprinol et voilá, Pedro’s your uncle.
OZ
OZ is correct in what he said. Simples.
I’ll try that then. 🙂
Pseu, buy the hardest wood you can find. An architectural salvage co. will probably have some decent old stuff on offer. Here’s a list:

Agree with all the above, for £39. you’ll only get Chinese crap anyway.
A decent, properly made seat to replace would cost several hundred pounds.
Mend it.
The chair int he back ground is a replacement, Christina. Solid hardwood.
