Yep, right at the back. The pavillion we’re walking past has long gone – there used to be a ‘Guiness’ clock in front of it.
The seawall the other side of the Royal Hotel used to have steel anti invasion spikes imbedded in the top. After the war they cut them back to about four inches. Trying to climb the wall (47/48) I slipped and manage to impale myself through my left leg. I still have the scar. 😦
Don’t remember those, must have cut them flush by the time I was old enough to notice that sort of thing.
