Sipping from my circular-shaped mug of tea I deducted that lists of various Top Ten’s of this and that are tedious and tendentious. Top ten to-do lists (resolutions by another name) are invariably not done or incomplete. Listings can be a turn-off.
The tea tasted strange making me wonder, why are square mugs so rare? Would it not be easier to drink from a straight line surface? There’s never an innovating inventor around when you need one.
A surging flush of wild realism bounced through my dome. The truth had hit me curtailing my pipe dreams; for years, I’d been called a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. Now bullet points exploded one after the other listing all the things I will never do. Another one of those boring lists, this time a never will be done list
• A 147 break at snooker will always be beyond me. My 145 will be as good as it gets.
• Trying to master that saxophone solo in Spandau Ballet’s True, I’ll be forever destined to be slightly out of tune.
• Nobody, no matter how hard I hint, will secret Santa present me with a wrapped tractor.
I’ll call a halt there as the list went on and on ending as a Top Thousand and One of things never to be done. The reason for this clarity of negativity stared at me from the mug of tea. Once, just this once, I stirred my sugar anti-clockwise. The opposite swirling had affected my equilibrium.
If you want a square mug for a round mughole:

I have seen some square cups, the Japanese make some — including square tea bowls.
I owned some square cups at one point, but I didn’t like them; I’m not keen on square plates either!
Nice square mugs, Pseu. Are there any hexagon ones out there?
Hello Christopher, I’ve got some small square glass tumblers though I’ve yet to come across a square pint glass beaker.
A nice rounded-out comment, Ara.
🙂
Square mugs JW? Won’t the liquid tip out of the corners?
How about square balls on the snooker table, now that would take some potting skill 🙂
Not if you had a square tip, Val. 🙂
I’m still going to give the square cup a try though admittedly it will be difficult to drink from a square saucer.
Weegie – I once missed a ‘147’ by one shot – the second black.

There are some towns in the south of France where they have occasional tournaments of square bowls – Boules Carrees. I don’t know how it works, since I’ve never actually watched one.
I brought a square teapot home from China yonks ago. Green with gold tips. The pot, I mean.
Let’s have hex mug

JW, good evening.
This whole post is getting a bit Masonic, in my opinion.
Speaking of which, I doubt if my close personal friend, C Murray, will be particularly popular in the Black B’s Lodge at the moment. I personally thought he did quite well in the circumstances and I would really love to know what Coisty said to the Ginger ‘Tic’ing timebomb to produce that response.
Oz, if you’re in tonight, I assure you that this is all in English, but not necessarily as you speak it.
Kudos to Pseu for all her help to you – it’s what she does. I just hope that she realises that, despite having already sourced you square and hexagonal mugs, you will probably not be satisfied and will be demanding old threepenny bit sided mugs before the night is done.
If you had a “straight line” cup, the liquid would cascade down your face and into your lap like a waterfall. Still, if you want to age with eye=catching eccentricity, that’s the way to go…
🙂
JM – I must be missing something, which is not unusual. 🙂
And that reminds me. A man goes to the psychiatrist and says, “Doctor, I keep singing ‘The green, green grass of home.’ Is this normal?”
The doctor replies, “It’s not unusual”
Taxi!

Listen to Janh1, JW. Being Welsh, she knows what she is talking about when it comes to ‘straight-line’, aka flat. It comes with the Welsh topography, as we both know.
Sorry, Janh1. I have now sworn a self-denying ordinance and this is definitely the last lack of gradient jibe that I will be directing at Cymru. Probably. Good luck against the Irish on Saturday.
I can do you triangular….

Or maybe self stirring would suit you, sir?

Enough already?
