DT Subscription

My Daily Telegraph online subscription has expired, to renew it would cost £80 which IMHO is a bit steep for the privilege of accessing what is now a very mediocre website.

There is now little talk of the paper being sold, probably because no one with deep enough pockets and any sense is interested.

Whilst the Barclay Bros were screwing things up the world moved on.

Yes, Jazz, it’s a shame, not to say a disgrace. I was a DT fan for many years, from enjoying the daily crossword as a student to admiring the quality of its sport coverage. I didn’t (and still don’t) do subscriptions to online meeja, believing that if they are good enough they’ll attract all the revenue they need.

The Telegraph once was a great paper. Even a mere decade ago it had some of Britain’s finest writers working for its pages. Since Lord Black of Crossharbour lost it, however, it has turned into a virtue-signalling PC rag. They hired low-quality “writers” with no respect for either eloquence or the intelligence of the paper’s traditionally conservative readership. It will go under in the next few years, replaced by the Spectator and entirely internet-based fora.
