Charity away from home

September 24, 2012 Leave a comment Go to comments

Down in the smoke in Berkeley Square -
Sans nightingale, at J Walter T -
Then the Prince of Wales -they took me there
To see the famed Sweet Charity.

It’s what they did then, dontchya know,
Them swanky London advert men:
A Mayfair lunch, a West End show -
All funded by fifteen per cent.

The rhythm of life is what we had,
Nothing was really better than this.
Me, a big spender! Look at me, Dad!
Getting a glimpse of a life of bliss!

Juliet Prowse, a national treasure back in the day. I’m pretty sure that she did the cabaret scene down here in perhaps the late 60′s early 70′s, a favourite of my mother if I remember correctly.

Yes, I think it was 1968 when I saw the show.
