Another British triumph or two

Andy Murray

Never one to make viewing easy, our cherished North Briton dragged us through his highs and lows with the skills of a Proms conductor. It was descant and bass in quick succession and we were poised to disown him again, as his friend Novak seemed to be taking charge. But no, his Caledonian courage saw him through.

Meanwhile, our other provincial hero, young Rory, gave another masterclass to his rivals and must soon decide where his allegiancies lie for Rio 2016. Will the green be his colour as well as his arena?

Janus, I stayed up tp watch the tennis final live, with a bottle of wine and a ready meal at 1 a.m. Brilliant, thrilling edge-of-your seat-stuff. Such intense bravery from each player. I had a small wager on Murray to win at 11/8 at the outset of the first set. And I stayed up to watch him being interviewed on SKY. The New York venue (Ashe stadium) is such a magnificent arena for both Murray and Djoko.

It sounds as though it was very close thing, that is the tennis. I really have never been a fan of Andy Murray, but I have to admit. I’m warming to him. Many congratulations to him.

Fabulous performances, hats off to both of them.

Rory of course currently plays with the flag of Ulster next t his name (as do McDowell and Clarke) which makes me think that he’ll probably join team GB

    This one…

G’morgen, Soutie. I believe that is because he carries a UK passport and the organisers reflect that by dosplaying the NI flag. Rory himself however has some green affiliations.

Rory has always played for Ireland at all age groups so far (as one can in Ireland for rugby and most sports except for Neanderthal soccer), but, of more relevance, he is a catholic so will no doubt choose the Emerald shirt. Mind you, the UK is blessed with choice for alternate players for Rio.

Well done Andy, with thanks to Ivan Lendl, and what a pleasure it is to see Rory play at the moment…bring on the Ryder Cup!
